Scalars: certain physical quantities are completely described by a numerical value alone ( with units specified ) and are added ( or subtracted ) according to the ordinary rules of algebra are called scalars.
Examples: mass, volume, density etc.....
Vectors: the complete description of certain physical quantities requires a numerical value ( with units specified ) as well as a direction in space and obey the laws of vector addition ( or subtracted ) are called vectors.
Example: displacement, velocity, acceleration, force etc...
