Scattering occurs when light or other energy waves pass through an imperfect medium (such as air filled with particles of some sort) and are deflected from a straight path. ... The colors of lightseparate as the sun's rays pass through the atmosphere, and blue is the color that reaches us.
A rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon that is caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. It takes the form of a multicoloured circular arc. Rainbows caused by sunlight always appear in the section of sky directly opposite the sun.
The sparkling isn't just the high refractive index - the shape matters too. Diamondsare cut so that a light ray falling on the diamond is reflected multiple times inside the diamond and therefore sends light out in all directions. Actually, diamonds don't shine, they reflect.

when the sunlight falls on the atmosphere of Earth the particles of atmosphere collide with the sunlight the particles absorb the falling light and re emit with different properties this phenomena is known as scattering of light Rainbow is formed due to total internal reflection
