Define Sedimentary Rocks.
Answers
♣ Sedimentary rocks
✍️ Sedimentary rocks are formed by the accumulation of sediments.
✍️ There are three basic types of sedimentary rocks :-
♦ Clastic sedimentary rocks,
such as breccia, conglomerate, sandstone, siltstone, and shale are formed from mechanical weathering debris.
♦Chemical sedimentary rocks,
such as rock salt, iron ore, chert, flint, some dolomites, and some limestones, form when dissolved materials precipitate from solution.
♦Organic sedimentary rocks,
such as coal, some dolomites, and some limestones, form from the accumulation of plant or animal debris.
♣ Formation
✍️ Sedimentary rocks are formed when sediment is deposited out of air, ice, wind, gravity, or water flows carrying the particles in suspension.
✍️ This sediment is often formed when weathering and erosion break down a rock into loose material in a source area.
✍️Sedimentary rocks are made when sand, mud and pebbles get laid down in layers.
✍️ Over time, these layers are squashed under more and more layers.
✍️Eventually, the layers are lithified – turned to rock. Sedimentary rocks can be formed in deserts , lakes, rivers and seas .
Sedimentary rocks are rocks of sediments
