DEFINE SEDIMENTATION.

Answer:

The settling of insoluble heavy solid particles in a mixture of solid and liquid is called sedimentation.

More about sedimentation(Step by step explanation):

Solids, which are insoluble in liquids can be separated by "decantation". For example, sand and water can be separated from their mixture by this method. To do this, allow the mixture to stand in a container for some time. You will see that the sand will settle at the bottom of the container. This is called sedimentation. Pour the top layer of water gently into another container. Be careful so that the sand may not be disturbed. This process is called "decantation".

Every day, we use sedimentation and decantation while washing rice, daal and other grains for cooking. Water in the overhead water tank of our houses undergoes sedimentation. The clay particles in the water of the tank will settle down. The clear and clean water above the layer of clay flows through the pipe and comes to the tap. This is decantation.
