Semiconductor

  • In this case, the energy gap between the two bands is small.
  • Some electrons may jump from Valence band to conduction band.
  • These substances shows some conductivity.

Doping

  • It's the process of introduction of impurity in the substance to inhance their conductivity.
  • Doping is done in elements of group 14 like silicon, germanium, etc.
  • Doping is done with electron deficient or electron rich elements like that of group 13 and group 15 respectively.
  • It results in p- type and n - type semiconductor respectively.
