A seconds pendulum is a pendulum whose period is precisely two seconds; one second for a swing in one direction and one second for the return swing, a frequency of 1/2 Hz. ... When released, the restoring force combined with the pendulum's mass causes it to oscillate about the equilibrium position, swinging back and forth.

The ticker timer is simply a piece of apparatus that we use to measure time. ... So if a piece of tape is pulled through the timer for a second there will be 50 dots on it. Since the spaces between the dots take such a short time (1/50 s) the ticker timer is a very useful instrument for measuring short intervals of time.

Simple pendulum

An ideal pendulum which consists of a point mass tied to one end of a perfectly inextensible weightless thread suspended from a solid support is called simple pendulum.

Second's pendulum

A pendulum whose period is 2 is called second pendulum.

Ticker - tape timer

It is a time measuring device which can measure the time interval of the order of 1/50th or 1/100th of a second.
