Software is the set of logical and arithmetic instructions, along with the data,  meant for a processor and stored in a file on a secondary medium.  Software is loaded in the main memory of a processor in order to execute it.

Data is the set of values stored in memory or files that are used by the software in order to compute results.  Data is not executable.
