Answer:

A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more pure substances. A solution is made up of two parts i.e., a solute and a solvent.

Usually the component which is present in larger amount is called solvent and the other is called solute....

*Types of solution are :-

Solid- A solid solute is mixed with a solid solvent. Examples are brass, which is composed of zinc and copper, and steel, which is composed of carbon and iron.

Gas - solid: A gas solute in a solid solvent.

solution and their classification :

Solution is the mixture of two or more

component

Classification/Types of solutions:

On the basis of sizes of particles of constituents, the solutions or mixtures are classified as

a. A coarse mixture :

In this type of mixture the sizes of the particles/constituents are relatively bigger. (more than10–6 m) It is a heterogeneous system.e.g. Mixture of salt and sugar, crushed sandparticles in water etc.

b. Colloidal Dispersion:

i. When the sizes of particles dispersed in solventare in the range of 10–7 to 10–4 m, it is colloidaldispersion (sol).

ii. It is a heterogeneous system. The colloidalparticles carry positive and negative chargewhich stabilise colloidal dispersion.e.g. Ferric hydroxide sol.(Fe(OH))As2S3 sol. etc.

c. True solution:

i. When the sizes of the particles of the componentsare of the order of 10–8 m, then it is true solution.

ii. It can be defined as a homogeneous mixture oftwo or more substances, the conceration of whichis not fixed and may be varried within certainlimits.

iii. It is homogeneous and transparent.

iv. The components of true solution can not beseparated by simple method.

e.g. An aqueous solution of sugar and salt etc.
