Solvent :- in a solution the substance in which the solute is dissolved is called the solvent.

Types of solution :- Any state of matter solid, liquid or gas can be become a solute or a solvent in a solution.

Thus, there are nine possible combination of solute -solvent pairs for a binary solution.
