Carbon is a special element compared to all other elements because unlike other elements they do not form ions. They make bond by sharing electrons because it it difficult for the nucleus to hold 10 electrons and it is difficult to remove 4 electrons from carbon atom. The compound made by carbon usually have low boiling and melting point. Carbon can be found in different structure, this is known as allotropes of carbon, for example graphite is made up of carbon which is a fragile substance but also diamond is made up of carbon which is one of the strongest substance on earth.
