the spinal cord is long and segmented structure extending from the medulla oblongata.it runs down almost the whole length of the backbone to the end of the vertebral column it is covered by the three covering called meninges. cerebrospinal fluid is filled between the meninges. spinal cord is Hollow from the inside containing a cavity called Central canal the central canal is surrounded by grey matter in an H–shaped .the grey matter consists of cell bodies of neurones the outer portion is white matter it contains nerve fibres.
