Sporopollenin is one of the most chemically inert biological polymers. It is a major component of the tough outer (exine) walls of plant spores and pollen grains. It is chemically very stable and is usually well preserved in soils and sediments.

sporopollenin is one of the chemically inert biological polymers and it is an component of the tough outer walls of pollen grains and plants spores .
its importance is:
it makes the spore walls, which is resistant to degradation by chemicals and enzymes

chanchal98: Just an opinion : it is called sporopollenin bcoz this covering was there even during the process of formation of the pollen i.e. In sporophyll , microspores are produced from sporocytes underogoing meiosis. Microspores develop into pollen grain which are male gametophyte which will produce sperms to fertilize the egg.
