Statistics is an art or as a singular verb is a science that deals with the gathering, classification, investigation and interpretation of numerical facts or data by use of a mathematical theory of probability. While statistic refers to a quantity calculated from a set of data or as a plural verb, a statistic is data or facts themselves.
