  • In plants, a stoma is a tiny pore in the surface of a leaf that is used for gas exchange. Most leaves are covered in these tiny pores, which allow the plants to take in carbon dioxide for use in photosynthesis and expel their waste oxygen.

The major roles of Stomata are as follows :

  • They are evenies for gaseous exchange and hence they play important role in respiration and photosynthesis.

  • Most of the water absorbed by the plant is transpired through Stomata. The process of transpiration protects the plant from high temperature of the environment.
