The guard cells regulate the opening and closing of stomatal pores by the osmosis process. When water flows into the guard cells, they swell up and the curved surface causes the stomata to open. When the guard cells lose water, they shrink and become flaccid and straight thus closing the stomata

➡️Stomata are tiny openings or pores that enable gaseous exchange. Stomata are usually found in plant leaves, but they can also be found in some stems. Apart from water vapour loss in transpiration, exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the leaf also occurs through these stomata.

➡️Guard cells are located in the leaf epidermis and pairs of guard cells surround and form stomatal pores, which regulate CO2 influx from the atmosphere into the leaves for photosynthetic carbon fixation. Stomatal guard cells also regulate water loss of plants via transpiration to the atmosphere.
