a taxonomic group of any ranks of the species, family or class.
based on internal and external structures, structure of cell ,development process, evolutionary relationship and other characteristics, living organisms are classified into different taxa and this process is called taxonomy or systematic. the word systematics derived from latin word sistema which means systematic arrangement of organisms.
Linnaeus used systema naturae as the title of his publication while classified the living organisms several taxa of an organism are arranged in the ascending order is called taxonomy hierarchy

Phylum / Division - Chordata
Class - Mammalia

Family - Hominidae
Genus - Homo
