covalent radius

half the internuclear distance between two adjacently placed homoatoms is called as covalent radius the value calculated will be different for homoatoms and heteroatom due to difference in electronegativity

vanderwall radius

it is applicable for inert gases and molecules

it is the largest of all radius that we study

it is because the distance between same type of molecules be large due to repulsion
