An impact study is a research conducted to observe and understand the effects of introduction of a new policy or strategy. A new policy, for example a law, may have outcomes that were both expected and unexpected. An impact study helps in understanding these.

"The impact study is the assessment done to measure how the principles or activities of an organization or a specific mission are effective in its working or simply it assesses the effectiveness of something introduced. Social, health, environmental impact assessments are some of the types of impact assessments. They are specifically done when some new mission is undertaken and to know the impact it has made after its introduction.  

In India, an impact study called the Environmental Impact Assessment Process which assessed the mission to protect river Yamuna.
