acidity causes when Hydrochloric Acid gets no food to digest and it starts digesting or reacting with the inner walls of the abdomen.

Acidity is also referred to as acid reflex which result in burning sensation in heart or heartburn and in severe cases may result to a ulcer in stomach.
Generally food is digested with the help of gastric juices like Sodium Potassium Chloride and hydrochloric acid.
In cases if the stomach is empty and gastric juices are released into the stomach for the purpose of digestion generally acidity condition occurs.
And this acid is reflect upwards still heart and may cause heartburn.
