When the magnetic field around the conductor is changed, a potential difference is applied across it anf a current is induced through the conductor. This is called electromagnetic induction.

electromagnetic induction is the production of an electromotive force across an electrical conductor in a changing magnetic field. It was found by Michael Faraday in 1831
