Hello champ!!
Well we know that in an isolated atom different shells have different energy associated with them... This is what the Bohr's Theory was based on..
We know when atoms are brought together the energy level undergoes splitting into a continuous band which is knows as energy band
The main reason for this energy band is that the different between the energy levels in a band is very small and almost negligible and thus overall it appears to be continous band which is named as "Energy band"
There different energy bands like :-
1)Valence band :- Energy band where valence electron exist
2)Conduction band:- Energy band in which the electrons start conducting (free electron)
3)Forbidden Gap or Band:- Energy band between valence band and conduction band
Hope this helps :)

a range of energies associated with the quantum states of electrons in a crystalline solid. In a semiconductor or an insulator there is a valence band containing many states, most of which are occupied..
