Fixed point are of two types
◆ Upper fixed point
◆ Lower fixed point
The upper fixed point, or steam point, is the temperature of pure boiling water at normal atmospheric pressure.
The lower fixed point, or ice point, is the temperature of pure melting ice at normal atmospheric pressure.

To define the Celsius temperature scale two "reliable" temperatures are used. These are, the melting point of pure ice, which gives us the lower fixed point of the scale and the boiling point of pure water (at atmospheric pressure) which gives us the upper fixed point
