 \pink { \tt{Equator}}

An equator is an imaginary line around the middle of a planet or other celestial body. It is halfway between the North Pole and the South Pole, at 0 degrees latitude. An equator divides the planet into a Northern Hemisphere and a Southern Hemisphere.

 \pink { \tt{Prime \: \: \: Meridian}}

A prime meridian is the meridian in a geographic coordinate system at which longitude is defined to be 0°. Together, a prime meridian and its anti-meridian form a great circle. This great circle divides a spheroid into two hemispheres.

 \pink { \tt{Standard \: \: \: Time}}

Standard time is the synchronization of clocks within a geographical area or region to a single time standard, rather than using solar time or a locally chosen meridian to establish a local mean time standard.

 \pink { \tt{Latitude}}

Latitude is a geographic coordinate that specifies the north–south position of a point on the Earth's surface. Latitude is an angle which ranges from 0° at the Equator to 90° at the poles. Lines of constant latitude, or parallels, run east–west as circles parallel to the equator.

 \pink { \tt{Geographical \: \: \: grid}}

The geographic grid refers to the spherical coordinate system of latitude and longitude used to locate positions uniquely anywhere on the surface of the Earth. These coordinates are given as angles, rather than distances used in more familiar rectangular coordinate Page 2 2 systems.

 \pink { \tt{Greenwhich \: \: \: mean\: \: \: time}}

Greenwich Mean Time is the mean solar time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London, reckoned from midnight. At different times in the past, it has been calculated in different ways, including being calculated from noon; as a consequence, it cannot be used to specify a precise time unless a context is given.

 \pink { \tt{international \: \: \: date \: \: \: line}}

The International Date Line, established in 1884, passes through the mid-Pacific Ocean and roughly follows a 180 degrees longitude north-south line on the Earth. It is located halfway round the world from the prime meridian—the zero degrees longitude established in Greenwich, England, in 1852.

 \pink { \tt{Longitude}}

Longitude, is a geographic coordinate that specifies the east–west position of a point on the Earth's surface, or the surface of a celestial body. It is an angular measurement, usually expressed in degrees and denoted by the Greek letter lambda. Meridians connect points with the same longitude.

 \pink { \tt{Torrid \: \: \: Zone}}

The torrid zone refers to the area of the earth between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. Geographically, the torrid zone is defined by 23.5 degrees north latitude and 23.5 degrees south latitude.

 \pink { \tt{Coriolis \: \: \: effect}}

The Coriolis force / effect is an inertial or fictitious force / effect that acts on objects that are in motion within a frame of reference that rotates with respect to an inertial frame. In a reference frame with clockwise rotation, the force acts to the left of the motion of the object.

 \pink { \tt{Circle \: \: \: of \: \: \: illumination}}

The circle of illumination is the division between day and night over the earth. The circle of illumination bisects (cuts in half) all latitudes on the spring and autumnal equinoxes. At this time, all places have equal day length (12 hours). The circle of illumination always bisects the equator (0 degrees latitude).

Answer : -

1. Equator :

An imaginary line drawn around the Earth at 0° latitude dividing the Earth into two hemispheres.

2. Prime Meridian :

The prime meridian os the zero degree longitude. It passes through Greenwich in England. It divides the Earth into Eastern and Western Hemisphere.

3. Standard Time :

Standard Time is always a time of country. A uniform time is selected for the country which is known as Standard Meridian. The Indian standard time is 5 hours 30 min. ahead of greenwich time (GMT)

4. Latitude :

The distance of a place north or south of the equator. It is measured in degrees.

5. Geographical Grid :

Grid helps us to tell exact location of place. The point of intersection of these lines gives the precise location of a place known as Geographical Grid.

6. Longitude :

The distance of a place east or west of greenwich meridian . It is also measured in degrees.

7. Torrid Zone :

Torrid Zone lies between the tropic of cancer and capricorn. It has high temperature throughout theyear. Most of India lies in this Zone.

8. Circle of illumination :

Illumination means Light. The inclination of Earth's axis and the revolution on its orbit are together responsible for the change of seasons throughout the year.
