The perpendicular force ( thrust ) acting per unit area of the surface is known as PRESSURE .

(3) ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE

The force per unit area , exerted on a given surface , by the weight of the air above the surface is known as ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE .
