What is Power ?

The rate of doing work or transferring heat is known as Power

SI unit of Power

  • Watt ( Denoted by w) or joule per second (j/s)

CGS unit of power

  • In CGS system its SI unit is Horsepower ( denote by hp)

Formula

  • P = W / t ( P= Power , W = work done and ∆t = Elapsed time)

One Watt of Power

  • One watt is the power of an agent which does work at the rate of 1 joule per second.

or,

  • Power will be one watt when the rate of consumption of Energy will be one joule per second

What is Average Power ?

  • Average Power is defined as the ratio of total work done by the body to the total time taken by the body

Formula for finding Average Power★

  • F = V2 / R ( 'v' replaces the rms voltage)

\Large\underline\mathbb{\green{POWER :-}}

\bullet Power is the capacity to do work.

\bullet Electric power is the rate of electrical energy consumed.

\bullet The S.I. unit is watt.

\Large\underline\mathbb{\green{ONE \:  WATT \:  OF \: POWER:-}}

\bullet 1 watt : When an electrical appliance consumes electrical energy at rate of 1 joule per second, its power said to be 1 watt.

\bullet \sf\ 1 \: watt = \frac{1 \: joule}{1 \: second}

\bullet The power of 1 watt is a rate of working of 1 joule per second.

\Large\underline\mathbb{\green{ONE \: KILOWATT \: HOUR :-}}

\bulletThe commercial unit of energy is Kilowatt - hour.

\bullet One Kilowatt - hour is the amount of electrical energy consumed when an electrical appliance having a power rating of 1 Kilowatt is used for 1 hour.

\Large\underline\mathbb{\green{ AVERAGE \: POWER :-}}

\bullet Average power is the total work done divided by total time.

\bullet \bf\ Average \: power = \frac{Total \: power}{Total \: time}
