Personification is a form of figurative language in which something that is not human is given human characteristics. This device is often used in poetry to enhance the meaning and beauty of poems.

Alliteration is a literary device where words are used in quick succession and begin with letters belonging to the same sound group.

Metaphors are one of the most extensively used literary devices. A metaphor refers to a meaning or identity ascribed to one subject by way of other. In a metaphor, one subject is implied to be another so as to draw a comparison between their similarities and shared traits.

A simile is a figure of speech that makes a comparison, showing similarities between two different things. Unlike a metaphor, a simile draws resemblance with the help of the words "like" or "as". Therefore,it is a direct comparison. We can find simile examples in our daily speech.

Rhyme scheme is the pattern of rhyme that comes at the end of each verse or line in poetry. In other words, it is the structure of end of words of a verse or line that a poet needs to create when writting a poem. Many poems are written in free verse style.

Onomatopoeia, pronounced on-uh-mat-uh-pee-uh, is defined as a word which imitates the natural sounds of a thing. It creates a sound effect that mimics the thing described, making the description more expressive and interesting.

Assonance is the repetition of a vowel sound or diphthong in non - rhyming words. To qualify as assonance, the words must be close enough for the repetition of the sound to be noticable. Assonance is a common literary technique used in poetry and prose, and is widely found in English verse.
