A solvent is a substance that dissolves the solute. And the solute is the substance being dissolved. To identify them, take note that if the subtance present in a solution undergoes change of state, it is the solute. However, if neither of them change state, the reagent in smaller amount is the solute.

SOLUTE

The term "solute" means the substance or thing which is added in a liquid medium and which not remains as big particles (undesolved) is called SOLUTE eg: sugar,salt,ink

SOLVENT

The term "solvent" means the liquid medium in which any substance is added either remains dissolved and undissolved known as SOLVENT

eg: water,any acid (hcl)
