Question:-

  • Define Average Speed

⠀⠀

Solution:-

⠀⠀

Average Speed: is define as Total distance covered is divided by the total time taken. Average speed is the mean of all speeds of a body when its Non-Uniform motion.

Whenever, We have asked to find the Average speed. We will divide the distance by time.

  -  \: \sf Average\;Speed = \dfrac{Total\;Distance\;Covered}{Total\;Time\;Taken}

Additional Information:-

To Understand the average speed, let us know about uniform and non uniform motion.

Uniform Motion: Motion of a body in a straight line travelling equal distance in equal gap of time. If a moving body covers equal distances in equal intervals of time, it is said to be in uniform motion.

Non-Uniform Motion: Distance travelled by the body at fixed intervals of times is not the same. If a moving body covers unequal distances in equal intervals of time or equal distances in unequal intervals of time, It is said to be Non-Uniform Motion.

Let us solve Example:

\rm\red{~Example~1.} Roma walk a distance of 270 metre from her home to a park in 3 minutes what was her speed during this walk

Solution:

Here's Distance(s) = 270m,

Time (t) = 3min

❖ 1 min = 60s = 3 × 60s = 180s

⠀⠀

\maltese Since, we take the unit of speed as metre/second for smaller distances, so we change the time given in minutes into second.

⠀⠀

\begin{gathered} \sf Speed =  \: ? \\\\\\ \; :\implies \sf Speed(v) = \dfrac{s}{t} \\\\\\ \: \therefore \sf  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: v = \dfrac{270m}{180s} \\\\\\ :\implies\;\;{\underline {\boxed{\frak{~1.5 \:  \: m/s}}}} \end{gathered}

⠀⠀

If we know the speed of an object, we can find the distance covered in a given time. Also, we can find the time an object takes to cover the distance while moving with a given speed.

Thus ,

⠀⠀

Distance = Speed × Times

⠀⠀

\sf{Time \; = \; \dfrac{Distance}{Time}}
