Question:-

Define the following terms.

(a) Inertia

(b) Freefall

(c) Acceleration due to gravity

(d) Mass

(e) Weight

(f) Angular displacement

Answers:-

(a) Inertia

A property of matter or object by which it continues in its existing state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line, unless that state is changed by an external force.

(b) Freefall

A free falling object is an object that is falling under the sole influence of gravity .Any object that is being acted upon only by the force of gravity is said to be in a state of free fall. Free-falling objects do not encounter air resistance.

(c) Acceleration due to gravity

The acceleration due to gravity, denoted by the symbol g, is the acceleration of a body caused by the force acting on the body due to the earth's gravitational field. This force can be written as mg, where m is the mass of the body.

(d) Mass

Mass is the quantitative measure of inertia, a fundamental property of all matter. It is the resistance that a body of matter offers to a change in its speed or position upon the application of a force.

(e) Weight

The weight of an object is the force acting on the object due to gravity.Weight is a vector quantity. It is a body's relative mass or quantity.

(f) Angular Displacement

Angular displacement is defined as the angle in radians through which a point or line has been rotated in a specified sense about a specified axis.It is the angle of the movement of a body in a circular path.

Answer:

INTERTIA:

Inertia is a property of matter that causes it to resist changes in velocity (speed and/or direction). According to Newton's first law of motion, an object with a given velocity maintains that velocity unless acted on by an external force.

FREE FALL:

The falling of a body from a height towards the earth under gravitational force is called Free fall. Such a body is called freely falling body. The earth attracts object towards it due to gravitational force. Whenever object fall towards the earth under this force, we say that object are in free fall.

A CLARIFICATION DUE TO GRAVITY:

The acceleration which is gained by an object because of gravitational force is called its acceleration due to gravity. ... Acceleration due to gravity is a vector, which means it has both a magnitude and a direction. The acceleration due to gravity at the surface of Earth is represented by the letter g.

MASS:

Mass is a measure of the amount of matter in an object. Mass is usually measured in grams (g) or kilograms (kg). Mass measures the quantity of matter regardless of both its location in the universe and the gravitational force applied to it. ... Your mass on the earth and the moon are identical.

WEIGHT:

the weight of an object is the force acting on the object due to gravity. Some standard textbooks define weight as a vector quantity, the gravitational force acting on the object. Others define weight as a scalar quantity, the magnitude of the gravitational force.

ANGULAR DISPLACEMENT:

Angular displacement of a body is the angle in radians (degrees, revolutions) through which a point revolves around a centre or line has been rotated in a specified sense about a specified axis.
