Air pollution refers to the release of harmful contaminants (chemicals, toxic gases, particulates, biological molecules, etc.) into the earth's atmosphere. These contaminants are quite detrimental and in some cases, pose serious health issues. Some causes that contribute to air pollution are: Burning fossil fuels.

1. Natural pollution:- Such type of pollution is caused because of the natural sources like, CH4, from paddy fields, forest fire and cattle, etc.

2. Anthropogenic pollution:- Pollution which is caused by humans is known as anthropogenic pollution.

3. Negative pollution:- This type of pollution leads to loss of soil productivity. In this pollution, removal or absence of desirable substances occurs which overall results to loss of soil productivity. Examples:- Overgrazing, Soil erosion etc.

4. Positive pollution:- In this, reduction of soil fertility by addition of undesirable substances in wrong place. Examples:- More and more use of fertilizer, Land filling by wastes.
