Sociologist takes interest in politics also. They study distribution of power in the various levels, and numerous sociological factors that shaping the political outcomes.

They try to study and analyse power (precisely authority) from various social perspective such as caste class gender, ethnicity , traditional and modern forces in the both macroscopic and macroscopic level, unlike the political scientist who see the political through one dimensions. Though it may appear that it political science and political sociology trespassing each other boundary but there is a basic difference.

Political science see themselves in indulging into definition and jurisdiction of the actors in the political system, they are more focused in internal organisation and function of a political structure, where as sociologist look how political structure been relevant today and it's functional, dysfunction anz non-functional aspects.

For example both talk about citizenship. Political scientist citizenship more focused on how a person acquire citizenship through legalisation, naturalisation and various other methods. Or how state canul usurp the citizenship of a person under what circumstances. However sociologist questions over the citizenship itself and it's relevance in this globalisation era. They characterized the citizenship itself through sociology lens a supra and sub citizen. Those who enjoy the privilege and power and feel empowered than otjer are supra citizens, while those who are purge out of the society and live a marginalised life are sub citizens of the nations.

The political sociology has been propagated and vehemently discussed by Tocqueville, Karl Marx, Emile Durkheim, Weber. However it get separate discipline and identity only after the world war two. And extensively researched and studies during the era of 1960s and 1970s.

Today the scope of political sociology is huge and enormous!
