define the process of photosynthesis along with the chemical equation
Answers
Answer:
Photosynthesis is the process in which Plants make their own food.
Three stages are involved in it:
1: Conversion of Light Energy into Chemical Substances, spliting of Water into Hydrogen and Oxygen.
2. Absorption of light energy by chlorophyll.
3. Reduction of Carbon Dioxide into Carbohydrates.
The materials which are needed for this process:
Carbon dioxide, Sunlight, Water.
Formula: 6Co2 + 12H2O >>> C6H12O6 + 6H2O + 6O2
Explanation:
it is the process in which light energy absorbed by chlorophyll is transformed into chemical energy. The chemical energy is used to form carbohydrates (glucose etc) from carbon dioxide and water. oxygen is released during the process.
light energy is used to split water molecules into oxygen and hydrogen atoms (this is photolysis). this is the light dependent stage.
the hydrogen is used to reduce co2 into carbohydrates light is not required in this stage so it is the light independent stage.
glucose is the first stable form of carbohydrates that plants can use.
overall equation for photosynthesis
6 CO2 + 12 H2O ⇒ C6H12O6 + 6 O2 + 6 H2O
6 carbon dioxide + 12 water ⇒ glucose +6 oxygen +6 water
the actual process is even more complicated. enzymes take part in it as well.
i hope this is helpful, I've explained it in detail.
