The British where instant on reforming the Indian society as they believe that Indians were backward. They passed the laws to stop the practice of Sati and encourage widow remarriage. English language was widely taught. They allowed Christian missionaries to function freely and also made conversion to Christianity earlier by passing a new law in 1850.
