Nucleotide of RNA consist of the pentose sugar ribose. These ribonucleotides are linked to each other by 3'-5' phosphodiester bonds. In this respect RNA resembles DNA. The polymeric chain of ribonucleotides forms RNA polynucleotide strand.
- RNA molecule is single stranded, except in certain viruses in which it is double stranded.
- RNA does not form helix. It forms complimentary base pairing can occur between adenine and uracil, and between guanine and cytosine, if the single strand folds back upon itself.
