What is a cell? Why is it the structural and functional into of life?

  • Cell is the basic structural and functional unit of life.
  • It is like bricks in a building.

Kinds of cell

  • There are two kinds of cell.

1. Plant cell:

  • It has an outer rigid cell wall which is made up of cellulose.
  • It has plastids.
  • It has large vacuoles which occupies more space in the cell.

2. Animal cell:

  • It lacks cell wall.
  • It lacks plastids.
  • It usually lacks vacuoles. Even if they are present, the occur in minute sizes.

What are cell organelles? What are the different cell organlles that make a cell?

Cell organlles are organised structures of cytoplasm capable of growth and multiplication. Each organlle is responsible for specific function.

The different cell organelles which make up cell are:

  • Lysosomes
  • Endoplasmic Reticulum
  • Ribosomes
  • Mitochondria
  • Plastids
  • Golgi Apparatus
  • Vacuoles
  • Per-oxisome
  • Centrosome
  • Cilia & Flagella (Cilium and Hagellum)
