Dastan (, Persian for "story") is an ornate form of oral history from Central Asia. ... A notabledastan is Korkut Ata of the Oghuz Turks — which may have been created as early as the beginning of the 13th century.

The plentiful folklore of prose fictions of adventure and courage in Urdu and Persian are known as Dastan. A dastan is usually concentrated on a person who used to defend the people of his tribe from the outside invader or the enemies of his tribe. This central personality installs an illustration of how one should fight, and the Dastan displays an instruction device — for instance, the Turkic poet and  Sufi master Ahmet Yesevi "Let the learners catch my intelligence, employing my information like a dastan".
