DECOMPOSITION REACTION : the reaction in which a single decomposes to give two or more substance is called decomposition reaction.
Decomposition reaction can be of three types.
1) Thermal decomposition: when a decomposition reaction is carried by heat.
example •2FeSO4 --heat-- Fe2O3 + SO2 + SO3
2) Electrolytic decomposition: when a decomposition reaction is carried by electric current.
example • H2 --electric current-- 2H2 + O2
3) sunlight decomposition : when a decomposition reaction is carried by sunlight.
example - 2AgCl --sunlight-- 2Ag + Cl2
