Democracy is a form of government where the ruling power is in the hands of the people that are elected by the voting of the common people. In a democracy the opposition party has the equal chance of winning the next election that is held. The elected governments rules on the basis of the regulations given in the constitution of that country. In a democracy the voting rights are in the hands of the adult citizens and their vote is taken as a single mandate. This definition is important for people to understand the qualities of a democratic government and differentiate with other forms of government.
