Conversion of carboxylic acids to esters using acid and alcohols (FischerEsterification) by James. Description: When a carboxylic acid is treated with an alcohol and an acid catalyst, an ester is formed (along with water). This reaction is called the Fischeresterification.

Uses of Esterification. Used to test of carboxylic acid and alcohols. This reaction is used in the manufacture of paints, varnishes, lacquers, medicines, dyes, soaps and synthetic rubber.

Explanation:

Esterification is a type of condensation reaction between carboxylic acid and alcohols to gives condensed product named ester along with the formation of small molecules like :water , HCl etc.

RCOOH+R'OH\overset{H^+}\rightarrow RCOOR'+H_2O

Uses of ester:

  1. Due there characteristic fruity smell they used in preparation of perfumes.
  2. They used to detect presence of carboxylic acid.
  3. They are used preparation of other organic compounds like: aldehydes, acid amides.
  4. Also used as solvent in many chemical techniques.
