• It is charged as no. of electron is not equal to proton.

• Ions is of two types -

i) Positive ions - Known as Cation

ii) Negative ions - known as anion

• It is used to make chemical formula and used to find valency of an element.

• The exchange of ions in a chemical reaction is called double - displacement reaction.

• How ions formed -

Ions are formed when atoms lose or gain electrons in order to fulfill the octet rule

when they lose electron, they become positively charged and become cation

Whem they gain electron , they become negatively charged and become anion

• The compound made up of ions are called Ionic compound.
