Molecular mass by osmotic pressure method

:- the osmotic pressure (π) of a solution is given by

πv = nRT

where , v is volume of the solution.

n is no. of moles of the solute.

T is temporarily on the Kelvin scale

if w is the mass of solute of molar mass M then

n = w/M

πV = w/MRT

M = wRT/πV

thus knowing w, R ,T,π and V one can obtain M the molar mass of the solute.
