The third estate was the 95% of population of France, were the common people. This was unprivileged class. The majority of the population consisted of the peasants. The life of this class was wretched. As they could not take wood from the forest and they had to pay the grazing tax. The third estate had to pay various kinds of taxes like Tithe from the peasants; and Taille was direct taxes to the state.
