★What is Velocity?

The meaning of velocity of an object can be defined as the rate of change of the object’s position with respect to a frame of reference and time. It might sound complicated but velocity is basically speeding in a specific direction. It is a vector quantity, which means we need both magnitude (speed) and direction to define velocity. The SI unit of it is meter per second (ms) if there is a change in magnitude or the direction in the velocity of a body the body is said to be accelerating.

✒ Velocity

  • Velocity is defined as speed of an object in particular direction.
  • SI unit of velocity is m/s.
  • It is a vector quantity.
  • Velocity = Displacement/time.

-----------------------------------------

✒ There are two types of velocity

1. Uniform Velocity

2. Non-uniform Velocity

-----------------------------------------

Let understand the concept of velocity in detail.

-----------------------------------------

Uniform Velocity :-

When object cover equal distances in equal interval of time then uniform velocity take place.

Non-uniform Velocity :-

When object cover an unequal distances in equal interval of time then non-uniform velocity take place.

-----------------------------------------

-: Additional Information :-

-----------------------------------------

✏ Velocity of an object can be changed by :-

  • Changing the speed of object.
  • Changing direction of body.
  • Changing both time and direction of object. (Both)

✏ Average Velocity :-

  • The average velocity of an object is its total displacement divided by the total time taken.
  • In other words, it is the rate at which an object changes its position from one place to another.
  • Average velocity is a vector quantity.
