A wavelength is a measure of distance between two identical peaks (high points) or troughs (low points) in a wave a repeating pattern of traveling energy like light or sound.
The term wave number refers to the number of complete wave cycles of an electromagnetic field (EM field) that exist in one meter (1 m) of linear space. Wave number is expressed in reciprocal meters (m-1).
relation between them : ni* = 1/lambda

Wavelength ----
The distance between any two corresponding consecutive crest or between two trough is called wavelength.
And is denoted by lemda..
unit is Mitre
Wavenumber---
No. of waves passing in one 1 interval is called Wavenumber.
as
the Wavenumber is universally propotional to wavelength.
i.e.
if we increase the distance between two crest or between two trough.
it Wavenumber will decrease.
