The term which measures the rate of motion is Velocity. Velocity is defined as a vector measurement of rate and direction of motion. Velocity is the speed in which a body moves in one direction. For example, the speed of a car traveling north on a major freeway and the speed of rocket launching into the space both can be measured using Velocities.
The S.I. unit of Velocity is meter per second and C.G.S unit is kilometer per hour.
Velocity = Displacement / time.
