1.to go down or make something go down under the surface of liquid or a soft substance

2.In environmental chemistry, the chemical oxygen demand (COD) is an indicative measure of the amount ofoxygen that can be consumed by reactions in a measured solution. It is commonly expressed in mass ofoxygen consumed over volume ofsolution which in SI units is milligrams per litre (mg/L).

3.Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD, also called Biological Oxygen Demand) is the amount of dissolved oxygen needed (i.e. demanded) by aerobic biological organisms to break down organic material present in a given water sample at certain temperature over a specific time period.

4.The threshold limit value (TLV) of a chemical substance is believed to be a level to which a worker can be exposed day after day for a working lifetime without adverse effects. Strictly speaking, TLV is a reserved term of the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH).
