hypotonic solution: water molecules are free to pass across the cell membrane in both directions, if more water will come into the cell than will leave, the net result is that water will come into the cell. the cell will swell up
hypertonic solution: if the medium surrounding has a lower concentration of water than the cell, more water leaves the cell than enters it. so the cell shrinks.
isotonic solution: if the medium has exactly the same water concentration as the cell, the will not be any overall movement of water. the size of the water remains the same
hypertonic solution: if the medium surrounding has a lower concentration of water than the cell, more water leaves the cell than enters it. so the cell shrinks.

when the concentration outside cell is more and there is movement of water in the cell due to which it swells up is hypotonic solutions.
when concentration inside the cell is more than outside and the cell content moves out due to which the cell shrinks is hypertonic solution.
when there is equal amount inside the cell and outside the cell there is no movement and it is isotonic solution.
