The loss of water in the form of vapour by the ariel parts of the plant is called transpiration.
It is related with movement of water molecules in a plant body by the transpiration pull theory. According to this when the excess water is loosed by the plant, it creates a space in those areas of water loss which pulls the water molecules from bottom or the roots to those parts. This leads to the upward movement of water molecules absorbed by the roors.
