Tropical deciduous forest :

(1)Regional distribution - The forest grown on the lower slopes of the Himalayas, Shiwalik, Terai Region, Western Ghats, North-eastern part of peninsula, middle and lower Ganga plains, plateau of Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Odisha, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

(2) Characteristic features : (I) These forests grown in areas receiving 100-200 cm of annual rainfall .(II) They are 35-40 metres tall. (III) They are called deciduous as they shed their leaves during dry summer and dry winter.

(3) Important species and their uses:important trees like sal, teak, Shisam , sandal-wood, deodar, bluegum, ebony, jackfruit, mahua, palash, arjun, bamboo etc. grow here.

They are mainly used to make frames of door and windows, furniture etc. They are also used for construction. In village they supply firewood also.
