The two current ratios of a transistor are as follows :

1) Alpha(α)  -

It is defined as the ratio of collector current to emmiter current

α = Ic/Ie

2) Beta (β) -

It is defined as the ratio of collector current to base current

β = Ic/Ib

Relation between the two parameters:

we know that,

Ie = Ic + Ib

=> Ie/Ic = 1 + Ib/Ic

=> 1/α = 1 + 1/β

=> 1/α = (β + 1)/β

=> α = β/(β+1)

which is the required relationship between them.
